Introduction:
The Certificate in Hair and Scalp Science for Trichology, available only from CTSP is the ideal foundation programme in hair and scalp science. The programme has been designed by hair and scalp specialists to teach the fundamentals and key aspects of hair and scalp science that underpin trichological practice. Taught over 6 months via distance learning, and supported with guest lectures and tutor support, this EduQual accredited programme provides learners with knowledge and understanding that can be applied in hairdressing and barbering salons, in wig makers or hair extension salons, hair restoration clinics and aesthetic practices. For those eager to continue their educational journey into trichological practice, this programme serves as the perfect entry point for further studies to develop fulfilling and rewarding career in Clinical Trichology.
The Level 4 programme is designated as a 'Certificate' with a total course time of 210 hours. This means you must be able to devote approximately 10-15 hours of study time per week to complete the programme over a 6 month period (approximately). The contact time is split between a mix of guided learning events and self-directed learning. A series of online tutor groups, guest speakers and revision sessions are offered to support and advance your learning, with access to our experienced academic and pastoral tutor.

How will I study?
The learning and assessment materials are delivered online supported with regular virtual tutor group meetings and expert guest lectures to enhance and support your learning opportunities. This intuitive and user-friendly, 'digital-first' learning environment will keep you engaged and immersed with interactive materials containing linked resources, videos, formative quizzes, revision activities, forums and discussion groups.
How will I be assessed?
Each unit is assessed individually, using a combination of written assignments, on-line multiple-choice exams, trichology case studies, written scenarios and worksheets. For each assessment you will be given clear and detailed information on timescales for completion and what you need to do to meet the assessment criteria, together with tutor support and assignment planning sessions.
Can I spread the payments?
Yes, we offer all students the ability to pay for their course in three instalments.
Entry Requirements:

Evidence that you have completed studies to at least RQF level 3† (equivalent to UK ‘A’ levels).

GCSE Science and English grade C or higher (or equivalent).
*Non-native English-speaking students must provide proof of a high level of written and spoken English such as one of the following:
IELTS - grade 6.5 or higher
TOEFL - A minimum score of 90 is required in the Internet-based TOEFL (iBT) with no less than 21 in writing and at least 19 in every other section.

Minimum IT Requirements:
It's important to have an up-to-date computer and software with a fast reliable internet connection to get the best from our rich virtual learning platform. We provide details of the most suitable browsers and software during programme induction plus we have a fantastic 'How to Be a Successful Online Learner' course you can complete before you start the Level 4 Certificate to become a confident and effective online learner as soon as you begin.
Progression and Career Opportunities:
The deep and relevant knowledge and understanding that you will gain by completing our Certificate in Hair and Scalp Science can be readily applied to the understanding of hair and hair loss conditions in a number of professional settings. Successful learners will be invited to apply for our higher-level education and training programmes and short courses including, but not limited to, Hair Science and Clinical Trichology programmes at Level 5 and 6.
*EduQual customised programmes of study are developed to meet the specific needs of our learners in trichology related sectors. The programme is recognised and accredited by EduQual as being academically robust and fit-for-purpose. EduQual is an internationally Awarding Body, regulated by the Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA). The customised programmes have been mapped and aligned with national regulated qualification frameworks (RQF and SQF) allowing learners to demonstrate a given academic level and depth of study. On completion of the customised programme of study, learners will receive a certificate of achievement. The certificate is evidence of the knowledge and skills gained by completing the qualification and the certificate of achievement will be issued directly by EduQual.
